The Ambition on Melting Ice (AMI) high-level group on Sea-level Rise and Mountain Water Resources was founded by 20 government ministers at COP27 in Egypt, at the initiative of co-chairs Chile and Iceland. It aims to raise the urgency of emissions reductions to prevent growing and irreversible global impacts from cryosphere loss for every fraction of a degree of warming above today; and especially, above 1.5°C, as revealed by the latest cryosphere science published since the signing of the Paris Agreement. The group aims to ensure the impacts of cryosphere loss are fully understood by political leaders and the general public, not only within mountain and polar regions, but throughout the planet. Additional governments are welcome to join AMI, through signing of the AMI Declaration, at appropriate events throughout the year.
